The History of the Adler Inn
Originally known as the Gasthaus Stern, the Adler thrived under the management of sisters Maria Anna and Sophie Nesselbosch. In 1896, Sophie married Ignaz Graf, a restaurateur who had recently returned from New York. Ignaz brought fresh ideas and innovative expertise from the United States, which transformed the inn. The addition of a grand hall, elegant guest rooms, and a distinctive staircase tower gave the building a striking appearance, almost resembling a castle.
In the 1920s, Ignaz Graf’s daughter, Paula, and her husband, Adolf Huber, a wine merchant from Achern, further enhanced the inn’s excellent reputation. They also developed the Sternenwirtshaus Hohritt, which later became known as a hotel and event venue.
In the 1960s, under the management of the Küpper family, the Adler evolved into a popular dance venue, thanks to the addition of the Hubertus-Stuben, cementing its place as a cherished local hotspot.
From Stern to Adler – The Revival
In the 1930s, the inn served as accommodation for soldiers. After World War II, it was taken over by the operators of the historic Gasthaus Adler and became known as Gasthaus Adler from that point onward. In the 1960s, the Hubertus-Stuben in the building's cellar marked a new era as a popular dance venue.
Today, the Adler is once again a vibrant destination – not just for the Adler Apartments, but also as part of the living TIMELESS concept. After extensive renovations and careful restoration led by architect Jürgen Grossmann, the Gasthaus now offers high-quality, stylish holiday apartments. These accommodations combine the building's historic charm with modern comfort, making it the perfect place to experience the beauty and traditions of the Black Forest.
